How to Choose a Filter

Posted on Monday Oct 25, 2021 at 10:24AM in IAQ

What should I consider when choosing a filter?

There are 2 main factors that need to be considered when choosing the correct air filter:

1. MERV – MERV stands for Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value. MERV is the system used to measure how effective a filter is at capturing particles of different sizes. The higher the MERV rating, the better it is at capturing small particles. Smaller particles can cause serious respiratory issues for children, the elderly, and those with respiratory distress conditions like asthma, allergies, COPD, etc.

2. Resistance: Filters that have a higher MERV rating are often more restrictive on airflow. Decreasing the airflow can cause problems related to air conditioning energy efficiency, reliability, and indoor comfort.

It’s important to choose an air filter with a healthy balance between a high MERV rating to reduce air borne particulate and low resistance to maintain the HVAC’s system performance. Whether it’s for residential, commercial, education, or industrial applications, we have the product to fit the job.
