We have received numerous reports of 454B refrigerant shortages by our refrigerant suppliers. Early indications are there is also a tank shortage, other reports are it is actually due to 454B refrigerant shortages. As this is a new refrigerant for the industry, it may be a combination of BOTH. We are also aware the OEM manufacturers are shipping with “less than a full charge”, or even without refrigerant. Certainly not making an install easy, not to mention the cost to come back to the jobsite to "top off" and check for full charge to meet OEM warranty requirements.

In any event, with a new refrigerant offering, along with being a blend with other refrigerants, there certainly could be supplier and product issues.

As you all know, all Daikin brands elected to use a pure, non- blended refrigerant of R32. R32 has been used in Europe and around the world for many years and was the preferred refrigerant in mini-split offering by several manufacturers as well.
