On July 3, 2019 the new standards for fans in residential furnaces will be subject to the new Fan Efficiency Rating (FER) requirements. Furnaces will only be allowed to be manufactured with an Electronically Commutated Motor (ECM) and production of Permanent Split Capacitor (PSC) motors will be eliminated.

Homeowners’ energy usage with ECM motors could drop by a staggering 46%. Also, FER standards are projected to reduce carbon pollution by 34 million metric tons and save US consumers over $9 billion in power bills through 2030.
